As part of Manteca Futbol Club's commitment to player development, the club is proud to offer, FREE to our community, skills training for younger children through our new Manteca FC Academy. Our focus at MFC is to teach skills, instill confidence, and educate children on how to become soccer players. We feel it is vital that future players are shown how to pass, receive, dribble and shoot correctly.

More Details Coming Soon

Riley Simmons plays for the MFC Benfica 03 U9 Girls team coached by Manuel Pires and been part of the MFC family for almost 2 years. During this time she has developed a strong defensive game and been an integral part of the girls growing success.

Thursday Nov 29th, Riley was transferred from St. Joseph's Hospital Emergency Room to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at UCSF Children's Hospital in San Francisco because an MRI showed a possible tumor in her brain. A subsequent MRI at UCSF showed that she indeed had a large tumor between her cerebellum and brain stem. The tumor had created increased intracranial pressure that was causing her symptoms - headaches, unexplained falling and problems with vision. She was medicated and monitored closely until Tuesday, when surgery was scheduled. A specialized team had to be assembled and the OR scheduled for the whole day.

Tuesday Dec 4th Riley went in for surgery which lasted 8 – 9 hours to remove a tumor, which was successful but lab results showed it as cancerous. The tumor was around the area that controls your equilibrium and allows the excess fluid to drain off your brain and into your spine and indeed the cause of the symptoms as described above. While successful Riley will require radiation and chemo-therapy for quite a while as the form of cancer she has is treatable with a good success rate when a strict regimen is followed. Riley’s parents have been by her side going on two weeks now and appreciate any and all prayer and support.

While away all the girls on the MFC Benfica 03 & 04 teams have been wearing white ribbons in their hair with her name and #2 as a sign of their support. The girls miss Riley incredibly and look forward to her return.
